At the beginning of the year I made a list of all the projects I want to get done in 2018. Then, I organized them by the quarter I thought I would get them done. Because the biggest project of the year will be the kitchen, which we’ll hopefully be starting on shortly the only other thing I put on the list for the first few months of the year was the foyer. It’s the smallest project on the 2018 list so it made sense to do that at the same time as our largest project of the year. Plus, I think it will be good for mental breaks from the kitchen when we really need them.
Small Foyer Ideas
So, I’ve been working on a design plan for our small foyer. There are several things I want out of the area, but I’m not sure I’m going to be able to get it all. I’d love your opinion – let me know what you would do in the comments! The things I want: a little seating area, even if it’s only big enough for one person, I think it would be nice to have a place to put shoes on. But, we also use the stairs for that, so maybe it’s not a priority. I’d also like a bit of storage for hats, mittens, and other things that can’t go on hooks. We need a place to keep our shoes and coats. And a surface of some kind for keys and other things we need when running out the door. Below is my current plan for the space, but interested in how you would do it.
Small Foyer Décor Plans
Since we moved in we’ve been using this Ikea desk that I hacked into a console table. It’s actually the perfect size for the space. And overall it works well; I just wish it had some built in storage. But, I’m thinking we’ll probably keep it and just repaint it because the size is so good. I love the color I chose in the design plan. I can’t get enough of the bright pop against the neutral wallpaper. Now I just have to figure out where to find spray paint that color 🙈 I also love the wallpaper accent wall. I’ve been feeling a lot of pressure about choosing a wall color in the foyer because whatever we decide to put on the walls there will extend into so many other parts of the house. But, I love this wallpaper because it makes a big statement and leaves a lot of options for neutral paint colors on the connecting walls. So, we’ll probably go with some kind of grey or greige up the stairs, in the upstairs hallway, and the downstairs hallway. Maybe even the living room and/or dining room too. I feel confident that we can find a really solid neutral to go with it. Then there are those hooks I found. They’re from CB2 and are I’m so excited about them because they’re so vertical and we have plenty of space in that department. Plus, I love that you can hang so much from them and they’re a bit sculptural and look cool without anything on them.
The last thing in the plan is the small foyer chandelier. I love this one and think it would look great in here, but I think we’ll wait until the kitchen is complete and decide on the foyer, dining room, and kitchen light at the same time. Because they’re all roughly in the same plane I want to be sure they work together.
The great thing about this design is that it uses so much of what we already have and would actually be pretty affordable to execute. But, it does leave a little to be desired in terms of storage. What do you think? How would you arrange the space?
