Replacing Outlets

January 25, 2018 Allie Ellenbogen

Happy Thursday, friends! Today I’m sharing a little update I made to our house – changing some outlets and switches. You may remember a couple months ago that I posted a how to for changing outlet and switch receptacles when I replaced the ones in our guest bedroom. This time I updated the light switch and outlet in our current kitchen.

Because we’re right on the cusp of starting our kitchen renovation I haven’t wanted to make many changes to that area of the house. Honestly, once the new kitchen is done I don’t think we’ll be using that area of the house quite as much. But, as I mentioned in this post, I firmly believe that if there’s something you can do to improve your space and is within your budget I think it’s worth it. The light switches and outlets throughout the house are something that continually drives me crazy because of how old, broken, and distressed they are. When I had the opportunity to try some of the Radiant by Legrand products in my house I immediately thought of this area.

Outlet Cover Idea

That little stretch of counter is the only usable work surface in the whole kitchen, so all of our prep is done right there. Because of that, we’re always playing “musical outlets” and switching different plugs in and out. And it’s not just appliances. At this point, we get most of our recipes online (Hi, Pinterest and Bon Appetite!) and it seems like whatever device we need is almost dead when we need it. Charging ends up taking so much precious outlet space for us. That’s why I was excited to add this USB outlet. Since I was replacing the outlet with a fresh new version I also replaced the switch so they would match. And I have to say – I really love the outcome. Even though I was graciously provided the Radiant by Legrand outlet and light switch I would 100% do it again with my own money. Being able to charge our phones and plug in a couple appliances is really a game changer. Its made a huge improvement that requires very little money and time. And aren’t those the best kind?!

How to Replace Outlet Receptacles

If you want a step-by-step guide on how to change a receptacle take a look at this post I did a couple months ago. And in the meantime, check out these before and afters. I mean, aren’t those old outlets and switches the worst?? I love the new crisp, clean white ones and how they both match perfectly!
