Hi, I’m Allie Ellenbogen, I'm the creator of The White Apartment. I believe your home can be your favorite place and life’s made better when it is.
Whether it’s collapsing into the cushy comfort of your couch at the end of a long, hard day; sharing happy tears over the dinner table about your loved one’s good news; or lingering under a mountain of blankets on Sunday morning just because you can. All of these moments and each one in between are only amplified when your space is one you love, are proud of, and represents you.
So, here at The White Apartment you’ll find inspiration for designing your home, DIY ideas for projects to take it to the next level, and ideas for bringing together your favorite people. I’ll cover all aspects of your home both inside and out and how all those things can make it a joy to live in - even when you feel like you have a long way to go.
Trust me, it’s all within reach. I know, because I was there. Almost four years ago I was standing among the white (walled) apartment that was my 500 square feet of life. You see, my husband and I had just left everything we’d ever known and loved and moved 3,000 miles across the country from North Carolina to San Francisco. As newlyweds we had almost nothing with us, only what fit in our car for the drive across the country. You can read a bit more about life in San Francisco here and here.
There I was, in a city where I knew no one with almost nothing to my name. It was there, in the middle of those white walls and the blank canvas that stood before me that I was inspired to create this blog. I eventually made that apartment our refugee in the middle of a big, crazy city. And then did it again in our next apartment in San Francisco.
And now that we’ve just moved back to our home state and bought our very first house I’m doing it all over again and I am excited to share it with you. Only this time around it’s a 100-year old farmhouse. Don’t worry, though, it still has the white walls; it’s just that now I can paint them! Some of my favorite projects so far have been: my master bathroom update, the foyer refresh, and chronicling how to work with a claw foot tub (when it’s your primary shower).
If you ever have a question about a post, how I did something, or if there’s something you’d like to see on the blog, please feel free to email me allie (at) thewhiteapartment (dot) net.
