I’ve talked about pasta night before, but that was actually one of our later dinners. I wanted to share these snaps from an earlier evening where we made a dish that still may be the most talked about of them all. The ricotta raviolo. For those who don’t know (count me in that camp before this dinner) raviolo is a large ravioli that has the insanely delicious addition of a runny egg yolk in the middle. If you think too hard about it it’ll make your brain hurt. But, with eight people in one room who enjoying taking on new kitchen adventures (one being a culinary student) you have just the right combination of ambition, skill, and ignorance to give it a try.

Back in the fall we celebrated what I’ve dubbed our “San Francisco-aversary.” You know, like an anniversary, but for our move. Ha! It’s a little crazy, but at the same time I think it’s something worth at most an all out celebration and at least a mention every year.

Restaurant Recap: State Bird Provisions
A few weeks ago we ate at what could currently be argued as San Francisco's hippest restaurant. Does that make up hip? Haha, I think it takes more than that. It's called State Bird Provisions and it's right between Western Addition and Japantown. It was on our 16 in 16 list so we were bound and determined to go. About 6 weeks ago Xan drove me to the airport for a really early flight and when we got up at 3:30 am we made the reservation. You make them on Open Table and they can only be made a certain number of days out. 30 I think. And people literally wake up at midnight (or in most people's cases they just don't go to bed until midnight) to get a reservation. But, that's just how it is here. San Francisco is a reservation city. We pretty much don't go anywhere without one. We were just excited that 30 days after the day we had to get up at the crack of dawn anyway was a Friday! I mean seriously, it doesn't get much better than a 7:30 reservation at an awesome restaurant on a Friday night, does it? Okay, I’m probably a bit skewed from living in a city where eating is one of the best things you can do.

Today was the first day since Fall started that it’s actually felt like it. We had a dinner party last night and both woke up a bit hazy from the late night, indulgent food, and a couple glasses of wine. But, Xan being the trooper he is ran up to Trader Joe’s first thing in the morning and when he got back he said it felt so much like Fall! With that we decided we pretty much had no other choice than to go on a long walk. And that’s just what we did!

One of my very favorite things to do on the weekends is to head to the farmers market. Especially in the summer. The fruits and veggies that line the tables are seriously the best. I love stocking up on my favorites and then munching on them all weekend. Eating fresh strawberries and watermelon is one of the surest signs of summer and I love savoring every last little bit.
