Happy weekend, friends! This is our first free weekend since getting back from Tokyo and I’m so looking forward to dinner with friends, catching up on some sleep, doing a little reading, and tackling a couple things around the house.
Today I wanted to share an update of our guest room. This was one of the first spaces we got in working order because we wanted a place our friends and family could comfortably stay. It’s a pretty small room so we have a full bed, bedside tables, a desk, and a stool that can be used as a luggage rack. The room is both our guest room and office. But, honestly we don’t use it much as an office. You might remember this desk that we DIYed a while ago. It’s a perfect fit for the space, but since we haven’t used it as much as we anticipated we may eventually swap it out for a dresser to give us a little more storage (something we can always use more of in this limited closet house). But for now it is nice to have a dedicated desk space when we need it.
We got a lot of bang for our buck in this guest room because I ended up using a lot of things we already had. The only things I purchased were the headboard (part of a full bed that came from the West Elm outlet), the side tables (a great deal, the marble looks amazing!), and the standard shams (old from Anthro, similar styles here). Everything else was pulled from other parts of the house and I like the layered, eclectic look I ended up with. I added a couple pieces of art - a San Francisco print Xan gave to me many years ago and a London poster I picked up while we were there last year. Both of which I framed inexpensively.
Aside from the decor the things we did to get this room in working order were:
Adapting the headboard to fit the bed
Adding blinds
I wouldn’t say this room is “finished,” but it’s finished for now. Eventually I’d like to:
Replace the fan
Fix the door (because of the sloping floors of our 100+ year old house it doesn’t quite close all the way. #character? EMOJI)
Add some kind of drapery (probably roman shades)
But, I’m plenty happy to live with it as is until I get around to those other wishlist items. I really love that when I’m coming up the stairs I get a little glimpse of the bed and the pillow combination - it always makes me smile.
