Playing catch-up

I just love these shots from the drive down. California is so incredibly beautiful.

And I mean serious catch-up. But, Thanksgiving was so much fun that I had to share my snaps. We went down to visit our friends in LA, you know, the ones who came to visit us last year for Thanksgiving. It’s a bit of a tradition and honestly, we have a little something up our sleeves for next year to keep the tradition alive even though we’re no longer on the West Coast. More on that later though.

Keeping with tradition we made a whole Turkey Day feast. The amazing thing about this year was that our friends planned the whole menu. While I usually revel in that part of the holiday this year things felt crazy and it was such a luxury to get to just show up and cook. And that’s exactly what we did. We had a great day filled with cooking our Thanksgiving favorites. Our recipe contributions were the chocolate cream pie and the mashed potatoes. Both of which came from Bon Appetit last year. And both of which I highly recommend. They’re always crowd pleasers! If you do make the pie I recommend cutting down the amount of sweetened condensed milk to ½ a cup, it will give you a chocolatier pie.

Anyway, that was a bit of a tangent. Back to Thanksgiving. It was a warm and fuzzy and magical and delicious day. Basically everything you want out of Thanksgiving. And then, on Friday we had such a fun day driving all over the city checking out vintage furniture stores looking for for an Eames rocker. We went to about five different stores that were in all corners of LA. It was a fun way to explore the city and we were lucky enough that our friends wanted to come with us! Not to mention, we found the chair we were looking for. And at the very last store nonetheless. The whole trip was perfect, take a look!

Isn't the view from our friends apartment so picturesque

To get the day started we continued our tradition of taking a long walk before getting cooking. It always gives us a chance to get our blow flowing and take in the outdoors before such a big day of indulgence. This year our walk was in LA and included places like Hollywood Blvd, it was so perfect! When we got back the bird was immediately stuffed for max oven time.

Mashed potato fixings.

As soon as the clock hit 5 I whipped up some cocktails - Rosemary Gold Rushes.

How gorgeous is this table? Our friend's father made it for her and her husband to use at their wedding. And the plates are pretty great too, right? All of the dishes and serving ware were actually made by my in-laws.

I love this shot - How everyone is swirling around the two already seated at the table.

In keeping with another tradition Xan made everyone a Thanksgiving leftovers breakfast - just a delcious as always!

And here are a couple shots from our drive home. Because like I said before, California is pretty great.
