Design Crush: Pastel Aesthetic

May 12, 2017 Allie Ellenbogen

Okay, has the weather been amazing where you are? It’s been warm and sunny here with a few rain showers mixed in and it’s been so perfect. That’s also got me thinking about fresh, new color palettes for the changing days. Generally I don’t go crazy with seasonal decorating. Because I’m always very slow and intentional about bringing things into my house I usually wind up with colors from all seasons. It’s just inevitable that there are usually trends in what you’re buying even in elements as small as tone and shade. But, I think this is a good thing. It ends up making your design more well-rounded and layered. If you go on a shopping spree and buy everything for your house all at once it could end up feeling a little one note because there’s only so much variety in what’s available at that particular time. But, I do enjoy doing a few small things to lighten up the house during this time of the year like putting away the heavy blankets and coats, switching out the throw on the couch, and some general cleaning and organizing. This makes everything feel fresher and really ready for the warmer days. I also believe that a few strategically placed items can make a big difference in taking your décor from winter to spring. And, right now, I think pastels are the very best way to do that. Nothing says spring like soft pinks, baby blues, and light lavenders. In the past they’ve looked a little cheesy. A little too much like your Easter basket exploded everywhere leaving pastel pieces in its wake. But, at the moment there are so many beautiful pastel pieces out there. From gorgeous prints to light and cozy throws. Check out all my favorites!

My 7 Favorite Handmade Pottery Studios

Hi there, happy Saturday! We got back from Tokyo late Thursday night and even though I scheduled this post before we left, I can be sure we’re all kinds of jet-lagged. The time difference was 13 hours which means we’re basically going to be flip-flopped for a while. You know how they say that the number of days it will take to get over your jet lag is how many hours different it was. Eek. I think I can see some insomnia in my future!

Kitchen Hardware Ideas

Right now, we’re at a bit of stand still with kitchen decisions. We have a few meetings scheduled and can’t make too many decisions until those are done. But, one thing I’ve been thinking a lot about is hardware. I’m trying to finalize our design plan and what color palette we’re going to go with so I’m still not sure what finish will work. But, even so, I’ve been exploring several options. I’m sure we’ll end up mixing metals throughout the kitchen for a more eclectic look, but the hardware will probably all be the same.

Guest Bedroom Idea: Inspiration Photos

Hi there! Happy, Monday! Today I’m sharing some inspiration photos I’ve rounded up for our guest bedroom. We have a houseguest right now and last week when I was getting the room ready I got really motivated to get the guest room in order and started scouring Pinterest for ideas.

I know I want it to be comfortable for guests. But it’s also a pretty small room that doubles as my office. So right now I’m still in the stage of thinking through all the possibilities and these pretty rooms are helping me do that!

After perusing basically everything they have I was left thinking about their lighting days later. This line has SO MANY good options. Lots of gold, glass, and modern shapes – it just made my design heart very happy! And how could I keep this all to myself? So, I’m sharing my favorites lighting options today. Just click on any photo below to be taken directly to the light. If you watch my stories then you know I got this one and this one for my desk and was choosing between the two.
