Vacation Part 1: La Paz

October 2, 2016 Allie Ellenbogen

We just got back from our vacation in Mexico and we had the best time! We were in Baja California Sur and made stops in La Paz and Todos Santos. The trip was to celebrate Xan’s 30th birthday with his twin brother and girlfriend. And, Baja is just a 3-hour flight from San Francisco with a time difference of one hour, making it the perfect quick trip that feels worlds away. It was so nice to just live in our bathing suits and not worry about much else besides sunscreen and where we could find our next tacos.

Big Sur!

September 19, 2016 Allie Ellenbogen

For Labor Day weekend we went down to Big Sur. Well, a little south actually. We stayed at a place called Tree Bones Resort. It’s a big property over-looking the Pacific Ocean dotted with little yurts. And let me tell you, it is ah-maz-ing. I could have stayed forever. We were there for the long weekend and we spent our time hiking, napping on the beach, soaking in sunsets from the hot tub, and eating some of the best sushi we’ve ever had.

Now that Xan and I finally feel settled into our new apartment (well, I guess it’s not that new anymore) I’ve been really inspired to get it designed. We’ve decided on a few pieces of furniture we think we need that will hopefully round things out really nicely. But, it’s taking a while to find them. We’re always very particular about what we bring into our space. In our old place that was because it was so small we had to be selective about what we brought in and because we had to make sure it fit. Nowadays, we’re thinking to the future a little more. We definitely have some furniture that was made for a studio apartment and while it worked really well there, now that we’re in a bigger place it’s not quite right. So, we’re trying to be thoughtful about what we bring in for the future. We don’t think we’ll be living in tiny apartments forever and it would be great if most of the furniture we get now could transition to a larger place when we need it to. Especially because we’re at the point where we’re starting to purchase nicer furniture.

SF See and Do: Southern Pacific Brewing

July 25, 2016 Allie Ellenbogen

Over the weekend we had some friends in town from North Carolina. We were doing a dinner with several other people over in the Mission, but our reservations weren’t until 8:00. So, we decided to head over early and jump in a bar nearby. No plan on where to go, we just figured we’d wander around until we found something interesting. And, man did we do a good job!

Cocktail hour!

July 22, 2016 Allie Ellenbogen

This year for Christmas one of Xan’s stocking stuffers was a book called The 12 Bottle Bar. And ever since then he’s been pretty into making cocktails. It’s really a win-win. I got him a gift he’s happy with and then he ends up making cocktails for us to enjoy.

Multnomah Falls

July 15, 2016 Allie Ellenbogen

One thing we did while visiting Portland was go for a hike. Several people recommended Multnomah Falls so it seemed like the obvious choice. It’s nestled on the edge of the Columbia River along the Oregon-Washington border. We knew there was one large waterfall there, but didn’t know much past that. We were even prepared to try somewhere else because we had been told that Multnomah gets really crowded. So, our plan B was to drive around until we saw something else interesting.
