If you remember my posts here and here (if you're looking for instructionson recovering a dining chair this is the post you want!) about the recovering the dining room chairs then you might remember that I was almost done with them. Well, they’re officially finished and I’ve got the after pictures to share with you today!

I mentioned it a bit in my last post about recovering, but we had such a hard time finding fabric. Honestly, it was one of the hardest parts of the whole project. First, it was because we didn’t love the options available around here. But, once we decided to make it work with something we could get locally instead of ordering online or waiting for our next trip out of town we each chose some samples and we wound up with so many. We both went in and got a sample of anything that could maybe, possibly work and wound up with a crazy amount to choose from. Considering Xan’s day job and the fact that he went to design school for 3 years to get his masters he generally has an opinion on what he likes and doesn’t like (for anyone out there whose partner doesn’t care about this stuff, consider yourself lucky, I bet it makes the process much easier!). After sample-palooza I didn’t really like any of his and he didn’t really like any of mine. Haha it was a definite standoff. So, we decided to take turns vetoing one at a time until we wound up with the final choice. Each person could veto pretty much anything no questions asked, unless the other person felt really, really strongly about it. And it turned out to be a good way to do it. It definitely kept a situation where a fight could’ve easily happened nice and calm! I think it’s because we both felt like we had a voice in the process and that feels good.

We ended up going with this white and tan geometric fabric. And in the end I can’t remember who picked it – I think it was one (of the very few) that neither of us hated in the store. So I guess it’s no surprise that it won. I like how the rhombus pattern sort of mimics the design in the back of the chair. And, the white really pops nicely against the wood while the tan accents help tie it back in. They’ve been done for a few weeks and so far they’re holding up nicely. However, we’ve been out of town a lot so they haven’t gotten a lot of use – we’ll see how they do over time especially because they’re white. But, because the fabric was so inexpensive and it took a relatively small amount of time and effort I was willing to take the risk.
