Clawfoot Tub Shower: Sticking Problem Solved!
Happy Monday, friends! It’s been a while since I’ve shared any updates on the clawfoot tub shower combination situation. Now that I’ve been using it for a while I feel like I can confidently share my favorite secret with you.
If you also have a clawfoot tub that you have to use as your primary shower and you’ve done any amount of research you’ve probably discovered the thing people hate most about it is that the shower curtain liner flows in and sticks to you from all side. Elsie from A Beautiful Mess thinks it, so many people on this Apartment Therapy thread agree, and of course Reddit has something to say! It’s a shame because clawfoot tubs are beautiful, but so many people who have one for showering end up hating it. But, I think I’ve discovered the easy solution, and you probably already have what you need to do it!
There are many theories as to why it happens, so many in fact, that a Nobel prize was given out for it! But in our house we believe it’s because of the temperature difference between the inside of the shower and the rest of the bathroom. In the summer, because it’s much warmer and your showers are cooler there’s not as much of a temperature difference. And for us it basically doesn’t happen during the summer. But, come winter the opposite happens, your bathroom gets colder and your showers get warmer, leaving a much bigger gap between the two temps. If you’re living in a house with a clawfoot tub as a shower then it’s also probably old and leaky and lets lots of outside air in. At our house, as soon as the weather cools down it starts happening all the time. Until I found my favorite fix!
Solution for Shower Curtain Liner Sticking to You
The simple solution is to get a space heater! In fact, I bet you already have one. Running a space heater while you shower will increase the temperature of the bathroom and at the same time decrease the difference in temperature and pretty much eliminate the sticking! Plus, it has the added benefit of keeping you warm while you shower. Bonus points if you DIY your own weighted shower curtain!
Be sure you use a space heater that has a plug rated for use in the bathroom. This is the one I have and I love it! It’s very light so I can easily move it around the house, it’s okay to use in the bathroom, it has a thermostat so you can set the temperature you want the room to get and it will shut of it when it reaches it, and it has a timer.
Do you have this problem? Have you found any solutions?
