Wednesday Favorites - July 2017
It’s been a while since my last installment of Wednesday Favorites so I thought it was time for another! In case you missed the last one, this is a series I’m trying out where I share some things I’m really interested in right now that aren’t really home design or DIY related. From products to recipes to TV shows and everything in between here’s what I’m into right now.
1. These Trader Joe’s Energy Bites. The recipe is on the back of the flax meal bag and I tried it a few weeks ago. Since then I seriously can’t stop eating them. They have super clean ingredients but taste delicious. They make a really good dessert, and are way healthier than my usual go-to’s!
2. This dish rack. I know it sounds weird to be into a dish rack. But I really just am and there’s no other way to say it. We’ve had it for about three years now and it’s still so awesome. I know it seems a little pricy when there are options out there that are $10, but I promise it’s totally worth it. It’s great because it’s very small but can hold so much. It fits at least 10 plates and then some. Plus, it has those two little hooks on the outside for any kind of glass, which ends up saving so much room in the main area. Another thing we especially love about it is the knife block. This way you don’t have to worry about dulling your knives because they’re jammed in with all the other silverware, they stay nice and sharp. The last thing that makes it awesome is the drain at the bottom. It catches all the water that drips off your dishes and drains it all into the sink. No more puddles of gross water! And, on top of that it has a 5-year warranty. I mean what kind of dish rack has a warranty?! A good one, that’s what kind!
3. Master of None on Netflix. I know the second season has been out for a couple months, but I just got around to watching it. And I have to say, I think it’s so good. Honestly, almost every episode has me completely hooked from start to finish. It feels fresh and I loved the way they took on different topics and worked through them in interesting ways. The only episode I wasn’t super into was the movie one. I’m sure there’s a meaning I’m missing, but on the surface I didn’t find it as interesting. I listened to an interview with Aziz recently and was so impressed with how thoughtful he is about the show and it's message, which makes me enjoy it even more. FYI - there are a few spoilers in the interview. It doesn't ruin anything, but they do play some scenes from later episodes. If you don't want to hear them first then I'd listen to the interview after you watch the whole season.
4. Nordstrom anniversary sale. Yeah, I know, everyone everywhere is talking about it. But, I just got ordered a faux leather jacket that I’m really excited about. The price was so good that I’m reallllly hoping it fits well.
5. Good Contractors. Since we moved in we’ve had three different contractors come out to make repairs. And probably four times that many come out and give estimates/bids. But we had some here last week who were just great. Beyond their work, which was really good they were super nice, easy to work with, and seemingly trust worthy. They made sure to clean up any mess and communicated with me about everything. Now, compare that to some guys we had doing work outside a few months ago and it was a world of difference. Those guys were creepy, didn’t even tell us they were coming when they showed up, and left cigarette butts all over our yard. I wasn’t even comfortable having them outside when I was home alone let alone in the house. But, that experience made me appreciate these guys from last week so much more. When you find a good contractor hold on to them – and tell all your friends too!
6. The public library. For the last few years I used to read the news on my phone every night before bed. I’d read for about 5 minutes and then immediately fell asleep, it worked so well. But, in the spirit of trying to unplug I’ve started reading real books. I’m not much of a re-reader so it felt kind of wasteful to buy a new book every month just for that so I went to the library. It was funny and I kind of felt like I was in the 5th grade, but they actually have a really good selection. If there’s anyone else looking to pull the technology plug a little bit this is an easy (and free) way to do it.
