Wedding Shower Brunch: Food Ideas

Okay! This is the third and final installment about the wedding shower and it’s all the delicious details about the food. If you missed the first two you can find them here and here.

How to Choose What Food to Serve at a Wedding Shower

The party started at 11:00 so we decided to provide brunch for everyone. We thought long and hard about what should be on the menu and narrowed it down to things we could cook and assemble a few hours ahead of time. Then all we had to do was keep everything warm and put it out right before the guests showed up. The only thing we served that didn’t meet those criteria were biscuits. They definitely take some work and they’re much better if you make them and eat them fresh. But, our friends are from the south too and biscuits are a long running joke and celebration between us so we really felt like we couldn’t leave them out. Which was all the more reason to make sure everything else was very doable because we knew we’d have our work cut out for us.

Food Ideas for a Wedding Shower: The Brunch Menu

Ultimately we decided on main courses of mini chicken and waffles served with maple pecan butter and mini BLTs. Our sides were tater tots with candied bacon, biscuits with an assortment of toppings, roasted asparagus, and a watermelon mint salad. And then for a little something sweet (I know that it was brunch but whenever I eat all that salty food I crave something sweet. No matter what time it is!) we had some donut holes and assorted pasties from our amazing neighborhood French bakery. I wanted to be sure everything was easy to eat so we made it all in smaller versions. That way it could all be eaten in a few bites or less. I hate when I’m at a party juggling a plate and drink and eating something that really needs two hands. I stop enjoying the conversations and start plotting how I can possibly do it without spilling. Plus, if everything is smaller you can have more! Tasting little bits of everything is one of my favorite ways to eat. I even cut up the pastries into quarters. When I do that it always feels a little weird, but it makes so much sense. An entire muffin or croissant could be a full meal (or most of one anyway) so I don’t usually take them, but I love having a little.

Ideas for Drinks at a Wedding Shower Brunch

As for the drinks, I split them up into two separate areas. The water was self-serve on the bar so people could get it whenever they needed it and I didn’t have worry about making sure everyone had enough. Check out that insanely pretty pitcher! I love it so much. Unfortunately this was the first time I’d used it and the metal leaked everywhere almost like it was perforated. When we took it back the sales person said this wasn’t the first one she’d seen returned for the same reason so we decided not to get another. I didn’t notice it until after I got the pictures and now when I see them I get so happy and sad at the same time. Haha.

For alcoholic drinks I kept it simple and just had orange juice and champagne for mismosas. I left them separate in case anyone wasn’t drinking and just wanted OJ. I also picked up a couple beers. I just made sure to keep it all pretty light. I see from the photo that some IPAs did sneak their way in. What can you do? People love ‘em.

The day truly went so well and I was happy to be able to do a little something for friends that mean so much to us. Now, tell me what are your go-to party foods?

Be sure to pin this and save it for your next brunch!
