San Francisco See and Do: Wayfare Tavern
A while ago we celebrated our 3rd anniversary and I never got around to posting about it. Because we got married on a Friday, our first two anniversaries fell over weekends, which was fun because we could make more of a big deal about it. But, this year it was on a Tuesday. Which we were both a little bummed about. We thought about celebrating the weekend before or after but instead decided to go traditional and celebrate on the day of.
Our offices were relatively close to each other so we decided to make it easy on ourselves and go somewhere we could both walk to. Luckily for us the Financial District has a lot of good restaurants to choose from. We decided on Wayfare Tavern. It’s Tyler Florence’s restaurant and it’s a pretty classic San Francisco venue. We actually went there last year on Christmas Eve, because we didn’t travel home we decided to visit some fancy, cozy bars and take in pretty decorations. Wayfare fit the bill for that perfectly and we had such a good time that we’d been wanting to go back for dinner ever since. They’re most well known for their fried chicken, which was super exciting for us because we both love fried chicken.
It ended up being the perfect place to celebrate – it was just fancy enough that we felt special but it wasn’t too over the top making it hard to enjoy after a long day at work. They had the table set-up with a little card and treated us to a dessert. It was all so sweet. I had two glasses of champagne (two! If you know me, you know that’s pretty much enough to get me drunk. Which doesn’t happen often). We ate fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and deviled eggs and were so happy. But, the dark horse for me was actually the steak tartar. I’ve gone my whole life not enjoying red meat, but in the last 6 months I’ve started to incorporate it into my diet for health reasons. I’m still a newbie, but have found that I enjoy rare and raw meat the most and this steak tartar is my number one favorite. I even made a special trip the day before we moved so I could have an order all to myself.
For anyone looking to celebrate in a low-key way that still feels incredibly special I highly recommend Wayfare Tavern. Take a look at my dark and grainy iphone pics. :)
