A Wall Mounted Bathroom Towel Hook Idea
Happy Monday, Friends! Today I have another update on our upstairs bathroom. It’s getting so close to being finished I can’t even wait!
So, there was a little drama with these hooks before they even arrived. You see I accidentally ordered them to my old address. IN SAN FRANCISCO. After lots of phone calls and emails to friends in the city, a message to our old landlord, and an awesome customer service experience our old order was cancelled and refunded and we reordered the hooks to the correct address. Moral of the story? Anthropologie stores a default address for your online orders. Be sure that it’s the right one (it doesn’t matter if you’ve ordered things to your new address before, you know, say, the night before 🙈).
Modern Bathroom Towel Hooks
Anyway! We finally got them and put them up and I’m obsessed. Because towel bars are a little more formal and can only hold one or two towels, Xan and I both felt like a wall full of hooks was the perfect decision. We agreed immediately and it was a miracle! We decided on Cerco Hook from Anthropologie. We were looking for something with this minimal design to help add a little modern edge to the room. And we debated back and forth about color but ultimately landed on the silver. Gold felt TOO warm when combined with all the wood and black felt too matchy-matchy since pretty much all the other finishes and grout are black. There’s a teeny bit of silver on the faucets and when we get a toilet paper holder we’ll probably get it in silver too. A note on color in case you order these too – they are not the blackened, gray-ish silver the photos make them out to be. They’re a much brighter silver. Ultimately it wasn’t so problematic that it was worth any trading them out because the order had already been such a hassle. But, FYI in case you’re going for a particular look. One other thing to know is that they don’t come with mounting hardware. That’s not really a big deal except that finishes on all the hooks are not really standard so it could be hard to match a screw to the hook.
Bathroom Towel Hooks vs. Bathroom Towel Bars
Did you read Emily Henderson’s post about bathroom towel hooks vs. bars? It seems a lot of people had problems with towels drying on hooks, but we went for it anyway. Between the AC and the exhaust fan in the bathroom we’re crossing our fingers it will work. We’ve actually had bathroom towel hooks for the last 5 years because of the size of our previous bathrooms and it’s been just fine. In fact, I agree with Emily, I’ve always liked the look of towels and other things on hooks. What do you think would you go for them or are you sticking with bars?
Bathroom Wall Hooks
Mounting them proved to be quite tricky as well. We were planning on just screwing them into the tile, but when Xan was shopping for the right drill bit the guys at the hardware store started talking about how tricky it can be to drill into tile. That, combined with the fact that not only do we not know where the tiles came from, but they’re also an odd size and color meant that if everything didn’t go perfectly we would be stuck with ruined tile until we were ready to retile the whole room. It wasn’t really worth the risk to us, so we decided to try this industrial strength tape that Xan found and it worked like a charm! PSA: Xan is OBSESSED with this tape. And so is basically anyone else he’s told who’s interested in building things at all. I highly recommend getting some – it’s rated strong enough to hold structural steel together. I mean, it is a little mind blowing! Before putting them on we used painter’s tape to evenly space them along the wall and mark the spot of each hook. It was really helpful because we found the first time around to be too high, and we also found that one of the hooks landed right on the grout. So we were able to adjust the spacing slightly to accommodate for that. After we got that right we made sure to apply a lot of pressure initially and then we let the tape cure for 24 hours before using them. To get the look of a screwed in hook we just chopped the heads off of screws with a cut off wheel and then super glued them into place.
Bathroom Towel Hooks: Form and Function
I love the placement of them all along the wall there. We also added one next to the door for easier access when you’re in the shower. And that one is particularly great. It’s a little precarious stretching to reach something when you’re in a slippery tub, so it’s a major improvement.
I have to say I just think a towel on a hook just look looks so good and I LOVE that we have so many of them. I’m a firm believer that you can really never have too many hooks. They’re useful for so many things.
